- W188043487 abstract "Bradykinin (Arg-Pro-Pro-Gly-Phe-Ser-Pro-Phe-Arg) and angiotensin I (Asp-Arg-Val-Tyr-Ile-His-Pro-Phe-His-Leu) are almost completely eliminated during the 3–4 sec required for blood to pass through the pulmonary vascular bed (1–3). In either case, elimination is accomplished by hydrolysis of peptide bonds (4–7). Hydrolysis of bradykinin, a potent blood pressure lowering substance, yields biologically inactive products (4, 5, 8, 9). Hydrolysis of angiotensin I yields, among other products, angiotensin II, the most potent of known mammalian vasopressor hormones (6, 7). Angiotensin II thus formed is released into the systemic arterial circulation. The net result is that a blood pressure raising substance is formed and a blood pressure lowering substance is inactivated; all as central venous blood is converted into arterial blood. Clearly, there are implications for blood pressure homeostasis (10–12)." @default.
