- W188068391 abstract "The use of modern technology in the process of teaching and learning the Arabic language has a very important role in developing students’ performance and improving their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students of non-native Arabic speakers are in the high need of using modern technology in language learning, which contributes to the development of the four basic language skills, since they are living outside from the original Arabic environment. This technology contributes to the creation of an artificial environment to learn a second language (L2) among them. With regard to the process of learning the Arabic language by using modern technology in Malaysia, it has attracted academic discussions of research by various researchers and experts in this area, such as the lack of utilization of Arabic language teachers for modern instructional technology and the lack of creating innovative technology in teaching the Arabic language. However, it is found that there are several attempts to invent modern technologies in teaching the Arabic language in Malaysia, such as the design of computer language games in learning Arabic, the use of e-portfolio in Arabic language learning, and virtual tutor. Consequently, this research seeks to study the possibility of designing and developing a prototype that specializes in improving the writing skills in the Arabic language for non-native speakers through a program that is considered as flexible and interactive. The program is expected to enhance learners’ self-motivation and improve their language skills by self-monitoring in common writing errors by Malaysian students. The design of such an interactive program aims to develop Arabic writing skills and eventually to evaluate this program among students for further improvement in the future. This program is specifically designed to identify and correct morphological errors by using the Microsoft Word program via a special font known as “Modaqqeeq Sarfiy” (morphological checker). This research is following design phases of the ADDIE (i.e., Analysis, Design, Development, Implement, and Evaluate) instructional design model in the design and development of this prototype among students taking a course for computer applications in International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The result of this study has indicated high mean scores among the students towards this interactive spell checker, in addition to suggestions and comments for further improvement. This research has definitely stressed on the importance of using advanced and new emerging technologies as a means to enhance the teaching and learning of the Arabic language to non-native speakers." @default.
