- W188095058 abstract "548 Objectives: Significant advantages are realized by MP-SPECT in that all images are active throughout the entire acquisition period. This approach provides a consistent input image set for SPECT reconstruction, minimizing artifacts induced by inconsistencies between sequential images. Performance was evaluated using standard resolution and homomorphic cardiac phantoms as well as by comparative patient imaging. Methods: Using 3 NaI(Tl) detectors (25 × 40 cm) to form 6 views each by multi-pinhole collimation increases MP-SPECT sensitivity. The modification was accomplished by remounting the 3 detectors from a Picker Prism 3000XP with the long axis of the detector parallel to the patient’s longitudinal body axis. The two outer detectors are positioned at a 67.5 deg viewing angle relative to the center LAO detector. System design acheived a 25 cm dia reconstruction volume centered 203 mm from the middle of collimators. Data acquisition is accomplished in list-mode format to facilitate scatter, crosstalk and motion correction. Reconstructions were accomplished with 12 iterations by MLEM algorithm and data interpretation utilized Circumferential Profile Analysis (CPA). Results: System performance with 6 mm pinholes showed comparable resolution (10 mm FWHM) to an R-SPECT system using the same detectors with LEHR collimation. MP-SPECT sensitivity was 4 times greater than that of the comparable R-SPECT system. The improved sensitivity of the MP-SPECT system provides the following benefits: 1. Facilitates clinical rest/stress imaging of Tc-99m and Tl-201 simultaneously. 2. Allows use of upper and lower peaks of Tl-201 for attenuation compensation. 3. Permits correlative motion correction of clinical images on a beat-by-beat basis. 4. Achieves accurate computation of cardiac volumes and wall thickness. 5. Performs true dynamic MP-SPECT flow studies. Conclusions: The MP-SPECT system described here requires no moving parts which allows simultaneous image acquisition, achieves excellent statistical content, eliminates or corrects the most serious artifactual challenges to high-resolution stress/rest and gated MPI, is well suited to functional analysis of gated MPI or dynamic flow studies, and is well tolerated by patients with compromised endurance, mobility and size." @default.
