In this paper, we explore a social-cognitive approach to explaining the conditions under which a manager is likely to consider an employee idea as creative. Our model posits that the manager's ‘creativity schema’ dictates recognition of creative ideas in the work setting. This creativity schema is influenced by personal characteristics of the manager, by aspects of the manager's relationship with the employee, and by a number of organizational influences.
