- W1896855328 abstract "The purpose of this study is to analyze dominant motifs of the enemy in Habakkuk to show that the enemy described in Habakkuk is more than historical entities. The another purpose of this study is to demonstrate that the book of Habakkuk is a coherent literary unity that carries a theological message that can be apprehended by enemy motifs of the text. This study used a methodology reflecting the basic synchronic concerns of the new literary paradigm for the study of the Hebrew Bible. By analyses of the enemy motifs throughout the text, we have observed two major movements within the motif of the enemy. The first is a greater definition of the relationship between Yahweh and the enemy. The second movement is one toward generalization. The descriptions of the enemy have become less historically specific and more paradigmatic. The warrior imagery in chapter 1 and 3 contributes to the message of the book of Habakkuk through the contrasting pictures of the Chaldean warrior and of Yahweh, the warrior-king. These portraits assure that Yahweh is in control of history and that his superior power will ultimately prevail over the enemy. Resultingly, the book of Habakkuk has emerged a coherent unity which communicates a theological message. The central concern of Habakkuk emerges as a theological crisis precipitated by a conflict between expectations about God as a God of justice and the reality of evil in the world. By reading the book sequentially, the text of the book of Habakkuk moves from general disorientation to reorientation." @default.
