- W189888914 abstract "Abstract In the field of regenerative medicine, one of the key areas is stem cell therapy, which involves introducing new cells into damaged tissue to improve function. Various cell types may be used, including mesenchymal stem cells, embryonic stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cells, and adipose-derived stem cells. Imaging is important for answering questions about stem cell viability, location, engraftment with host tissue, and differentiation, as well as for studying the basic biology of these cells in vitro. Common approaches to cell imaging are magnetic resonance imaging, optical methods, ultrasound, single photon emission computed tomography, and positron emission tomography. It is important to recognize that in direct imaging, contrast agents, and in indirect imaging, reporter genes that are used to track delivered cells can influence the biology and behavior of these cells. Some of the side effects associated with labeling can be avoided by labeling only a fraction of the cells. Before the data can be interpreted, however, the imaging signal must be carefully validated." @default.
