- W190028721 abstract "ASEP HUSNI YASIN ROSADI. Strategy to Increase the Competitiveness of Indonesian Pulp Industry. Under the supervision of E. GUMBIRA-SA’ID, ILLAH SAILAH, WASRIN SYAFII and AMRIL AMAN. Supported by a huge amount of raw materials, Indonesian pulp industry gives significant contribution to Indonesian economy and has a good prospect in the future. Nevertheless, the industry competitiveness still has many problems. Its competitiveness is still far below the other main pulp producers (Canada, Finland, Sweden, Russia, Brazil and Chile) especially for critical factors, such as using sources of raw material, optimizing capability in the production factors and managing pollutant impact to the environment. This study was aimed at assessing the competitiveness of Indonesian pulp industry among the other main producers, and to give the suggestion of relevant strategies to increase its competitiveness. The assessment on competitiveness and suggested strategies are based on the results of its competitiveness analysis. The analysis used the non-parametric method, especially DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis), OCRA (Operational Competitiveness Rating Analysis) and a special method developed specially for this study, called CA (Competitiveness Analysis). The results of the analysis show that in utilizing the raw material, the competitiveness of the Indonesian pulp industry is relatively low compared to Canada, Finland, Sweden and Chile, but higher than Brazil and Russia. In using the production factors, Indonesian pulp industry has relatively higher competitiveness than the other four main established producers (Canada, Finland, Sweden and Russia) but relatively lower than the other two South American (Brazil and Chile). While in managing the industrial waste, the competitiveness of the Indonesian pulp industry is worse than Finland and Canada. By taking into consideration the critical factors of the Indonesian pulp industry competitiveness toward the other six countries as the major pulp producers in the word, three major strategies can be applied to increase the competitiveness. The three main strategies being proposed are strategy in optimizing planted forest management, strategy in optimizing production cost and utilizing production capacity, and strategy in promoting awareness to stakeholders in managing environment." @default.
