- W1901090179 abstract "Chinese hamsters were exposed in two groups of four to uv-generated ozone for 5 hours at 0.2 ppm, these values chosen through preliminary experiments. An additional group served as a control. Exposure-adjusted break frequencies for chromosome aberrations produced in circulating blood lymphocytes were the quantitative indicator of damage. Inhaled ozone produced 1.67 × 10−3 breaks/cell-(ppm min), agreeing well with data from in vitro exposure of human cells. There was no apparent decrease in break frequency with time for 2 weeks posttreatment. Directly extending this animal study to the human case, presently permitted ozone exposures (up to 0.1 ppm, 4 ppm hr/week) would be expected to result in break frequencies that are orders of magnitude greater than those resulting from permitted radiation exposures (See Part II)." @default.
