- W1907173664 abstract "Some extremophilic bacteria possess novel lipids that may reflect the environment that they colonize. The extremely halophilic bacterium Salinibacter ruber possesses a novel sulfonolipid that could indicate a role in the extremely saline environments that this organism inhabits. The analysis of the lipid composition of bacteria is used to distinguish among closely related taxa. The so-called chemotaxonomic parameters include the analysis of polar lipids, fatty acids, isoprenoid quinones, and peptidoglycan, among other macromolecules of the cells. This chapter describes methods for the analysis of polar lipids, isoprenoid quinones and fatty acids that are used for the characterization of extremophilic bacteria though they have variable physiological, biochemical and chemical parameters. The methods are simple enough to be used in most laboratories or common enough, such that laboratories can obtain results from others." @default.
