- W1907534068 abstract "Summary The composition of chylomicrons was determined after patients were fed chemically defined fats. The triglycerides of chylomicrons had a fatty acid composition almost identical with that of the dietary fat except in those instances in which short chain acids were fed. Fatty acids of 10 carbon atoms or fewer were not present in the chylomicrons; lauric and myristic acids were only partially absorbed via the lymphatics. Dietary fatty acids were incorporated into phospholipids and cholesterol esters of chylomicrons, but their contribution to these ester classes was relatively smalI. Dietary fats which were composed of roughly equimolar amounts of myristic acid and oleic acid yielded comparable distributions of triglyceride species in chylomicrons whether they were fed as mixtures of trimyristin and triolein or as mixtures of the triglycerides formed by random esterification of the same fatty acids into trimyristin, dimyristylolein, dioleylmyristin, and triolein. This indicates that lipolysis of nearly all triglyceride moleeules must extend to at least the monoglyceride stage. Furthermore, the distribution of the fatty acids into triglyceride species du ring the process of reesterification is shown to be nonrandom. The present study does not afford an explanation of this selective esterification." @default.
