The reaction channels for single- and double-electron capture have been determined by means of translational energy spectroscopy. The favoured potential curve crossings are analysed. The measured differential cross sections are compared with semiclassical calculations. In the Ar4+/Kr system the simultaneous capture of both electrons as well as the two-step mechanism is found to contribute to the double capture process. The double-electron capture in Ar4+/Ar collisions is dominated by the two-step process. This difference is explained within a three-state Landau-Zener model." @default.
