- W1925127913 abstract "This paper describes the authors' research toward using pattern recognition tools to automate the design of response-based, one-shot stability controls. Some power system controls such as generator and load tripping are one-shot by nature, while others such as HVDC fast power changes can be one-shot by design. Early investigations used event-specific information such as the outage of a major transmission line in order to facilitate progress. Pattern recognition tools were adapted for response-based control by converting the data from each simulation into a large number of input-output pairs for classifier training. Recent studies have focused on an application in which apparent resistance and its rate of change measured near the middle of an intertie are used to predict loss of synchronism across the intertie. One reason for studying this application is because the input vector is two-dimensional so that training data and decision regions can be visualized for better understanding." @default.
