- W192540955 abstract "Overwhelming evidence has been amassed that interferons, particularly gamma interferon (IFNγ), play a pivotal role in the modulation of a variety of immune functions. These include those immune functions that are of particular importance in host defense against cancer, such as priming of macrophages for tumor cell killing, induction of specific cytotoxic T-cells, and enhancement of cytotoxic lymphocyte activities such as that of the natural killer cell (Johnson 1985). Production of IFNγ in mice and humans is regulated by a dynamic interaction between various T-cell subsets, involving helper cells, suppressor cells, and IFNγ-producing cells (Fig. 1) (Torres et al. 1982a,b).Helper cells aid IFNγ production by providing interleukin-2 (IL-2), while suppressor cells exert their effects by absorption or sequestering of IL-2 (Torres et al. 1982a)." @default.
