- W192655554 abstract "For many yecrs the Mermonites in North America were largely rural agriculturists. Still one of the most rural ethno-religious groups, the Mennonites, are urbanizing faster than perhaps any other group. Thus we have the opportunity to plot family role changes, amidst changing family structures, as they become more urban and industrial. Numerous studies of rural Mennonites by Fretz, Redekop, Sawatzky, Kauffman, Hostetler, Francis, Driedger, and others have outlined the roles and traditions of the rural Mennonite family. More recently, studies by Anderson and Driedger, Driedger, Appavoo, Lawrence, Young and others show how Mennonite family size, socio economic status, occupation, etc. have resulted in a change of family structure. This resulted in a change of family structure. This expo sure to industrialization and urbanization, and this change in the family structure is also changing from more patriarchial age, and sex roles to more modern egalitarian patterns. The task of the paper is to trace the changing Mennonite family structures and roles, by providing early and recent evidence." @default.
