Tiene, pues, un doble objetivo: por una parte, se plantea si este tipo de vivienda presenta caracteristicas propias (localizacion, tipologia edificadora, superficie, dotacion de instalaciones o equipamientos o regimen de tenencia), diferentes a las del domicilio habitual. Dicho con otras palabras, la cuestion es que pueden buscar los espanoles en la residencia secundaria que no tenga la principal. Y por otra parte, con el estudio de los hogares espanoles que disponen de una residencia secundaria, lo que se pretende es analizar en que medida las caracteristicas sociodemograficas de los hogares influyen en la disposicion, la localizacion, la tenencia y el uso de la residencia secundaria.La tesis doctoral tiene por ambito el conjunto de Espana a escala provincial y esta estructurada en tres partes:En la primara parte se presenta el tema, las fuentes estadisticas y se precisa el concepto de residencia secundaria utilizado. Ademas, se incluye un sucinto repaso de la literatura sobre la residencia secundaria en el que se abordan diferentes aspectos. En primer lugar se tratan los origenes y antecedentes de este tipo de vivienda. Seguidamente se abordan las discusiones alrededor del concepto de residencia secundaria y los diferentes significados del termino. A continuacion se tratan las causas de la popularizacion y expansion de este tipo de vivienda. Y por ultimo, se presta especial atencion a las repercusiones de las residencias secundarias en los territorios en los que se ubican, y los modelos de localizacion y caracteristicas con que se clasifican.En la segunda parte, utilizando el Censo de Viviendas, se analiza la distribucion y las caracteristicas de las residencias secundarias en Espana. Se estudia, en primer lugar, la evolucion entre 1981 y 1991, la localizacion y las caracteristicas de los edificios en los que se integran tales viviendas en 1991. A continuacion se presenta una tipologia provincial de la residencia secundaria que sintetiza las pautas territoriales mas significativas. Y por ultimo, se tratan las caracteristicas de la residencia secundaria: superficie, numero de habitaciones, dotacion de equipamientos e infraestructuras y regimen de tenencia.La tercera parte consta de dos capitulos en los que, a partir de la Encuesta Sociodemografica de 1991, se analizan los usuarios de residencias secundarias. En el primero de ellos se traza el perfil de los hogares que disponen de tales viviendas segun sus caracteristicas (edad, tipo de hogar, categoria socioeconomica y historia migratoria). El capitulo se complementa con un analisis de la localizacion, de la tenencia y del uso de dichas viviendas. En el segundo capitulo se analizan territorialmente las mismas variables, segun el tamano de municipio y a escala provincial, siempre que la significacion estadistica de los resultados lo permite.Por ultimo, la tesis contiene tres capitulos mas: uno en el que se recogen las principales conclusiones, reflexiones, interrogantes y lineas de investigacion previstas para el futuro, otro de bibliografia y otro final que, ademas de contener algunas notas sobre las variables utilizadas en la Encuesta Sociodemografica, incluye anexos y tablas estadisticas.This doctoral thesis comprises research into the characteristics of Spanish second homes and those of the households that owned such accommodation in 1991. It has a dual objective. On the one hand, it considers whether this kind of accommodation has specific characteristics (location, type of construction, surface area, facilities or equipment installed, and system of ownership), different from those of the usual residence. In other words, the question is what Spaniards seek in the second home that the main one lacks. On the other hand, by studying the Spanish households that have a second home, it is intended to analyze to what extent the socio-demographic characteristics of households influence the layout, location, ownership and use of the second home.The sphere of the doctoral thesis is the whole of Spain at provincial level. It consists of three parts:The first part presents the subject and the statistical sources, and defines the concept of second home used. It moreover includes a brief review of the literature on various aspects of second homes. Both the origins and the background of this type of accommodation are discussed. It then examines the discussions on the concept of a second home and the different meanings of the term, and goes on to investigate the causes of the popularization and expansion of this kind of accommodation. Finally, it pays particular attention to the repercussions of second homes on the territories where they are situated, and the location models and characteristics under which they are classified.The second part, using the Housing Census, analyzes the distribution and characteristics of second homes in Spain. First, it studies the evolution between 1981 and 1991, the location and the characteristics of the buildings in which these homes could be found in 1991. It then presents a provincial typology of second homes, summarizing the most significant territorial patterns. And, finally, it deals with the characteristics of the second home: surface area, number of bedrooms, facilities and equipment installed, and system of ownership.The third part consists of two chapters which, starting from the 1991 Socio-demographic Survey, analyze the users of second homes. The first of these chapters outlines the profile of the households which possess these homes according to their characteristics (age, type of household, socio-economic category and migratory history). This chapter also includes an analysis of the location, the ownership and the use of these homes. The second chapter analyzes the same variables from a territorial viewpoint, depending on the size of the municipality and at provincial level, where the statistical significance of the results permits.Finally, the thesis incorporates a further three chapters. One contains the main conclusions, reflections, queries and lines of research foreseen for the future, another the bibliography, and a final one which, in addition to containing notes on the variables used in the Socio-demographic Survey, includes appendices and statistical tables." @default.
