- W1952610010 abstract "Quality of trained manpower is one of the key factors contributing to the service quality in the travel and tourism industry. There is a perceived need for human resource development, to raise the profile of the industry, increase productivity and provide sustainable employment within the tourism industry and in such a situation, training plays a vital role for upgrading employee skills. However, apart from industry related issues, there are several other training problems besieging the travel industry. This study has been carried out from the employee perspective to identify the critical factors affecting training and development in travel agencies. A structured questionnaire was administered on 450 employees working in 50 travel agencies across India. The results through structured equation modelling show that employees of travel agencies feel that the key issues affecting training and development initiatives in their organisations are training provisions, employee perception and managerial support." @default.
