- W195804922 abstract "In this article, the history of the discovery of dopamine receptors is given, from the original observation that antipsychotic drugs elicit parkinsonism to the final discovery of the dopamine D2 receptor directly by means of [3H]haloperidol. Five dopamine receptors are now cloned and many polymorphisms and mutations are discussed and depicted. All antipsychotic antagonists act on the D2 receptor, including the newer antipsychotic drugs. Dopamine-like drugs that stimulate D2 receptors are effective in Parkinson’s disease, and D1 stimulation synergizes with the D2 action. Each of the five dopamine receptors has a high-affinity and a low-affinity state. The number of D2High states increases in the striatum in all conditions associated with behavioral dopamine supersensitivity." @default.
