- W1963778207 abstract "Response of washed platelets of man and eleven other mammals to ADP, thrombin, adsorbed plasma, fibrinogen, serotonin, epinephrine, and collagen and to mixtures of these agglutinating or aggregating agents was studied. None of the agglutinating agents was active in the absence of added Ca++ or Mg++. In general all agents induced agglutination of the platelets of the different species with some important exceptions. ADP failed to induce agglutination of platelets of cat, pig, rabbit, and rat. Thrombin induced agglutination of all platelets tested except those of the pig. Adsorbed homologous plasma failed to cause agglutination of platelets of rabbit, rat, and rhesus (monkey). Adsorbed homologous plasma-ADP, fibrinogen-ADP, or fibrinogen alone was active with all platelets tested except those of rabbit. Serotonin induced agglutination of platelets of only cebus (monkey), chimpanzee, and guinea pig; epinephrine, those of cebus, chimpanzee, dog, guinea pig, man, rabbit, and rhesus. Collagen was active with all platelets tested. Human platelets washed at 25°C as opposed to those washed at 4°C were agglutinable by thrombin and collagen but not by ADP unless fibrinogen was also present. The data emphasize the central role of ADP and fibrinogen in platelet agglutination." @default.
