- W1963929168 abstract "Ultrastructural and cytochemical properties of 40 S ribonucleoprotein particles isolated from rat liver nuclei have been studied. When examined with the electron microscope, the population of particles appears to be pure and homogeneous. These particles are spherical with a diameter of 200 to 300 Å, and no subunits are seen. They are not interconnected. An ultra-structural and cytochemical analysis of each step of the fractionation shows that the aspect of the nuclei and of the fractions depends upon the magnesium concentration. The magnesium concentration of the medium is crucial for the obtention of the particles, and this fact is clearly explained by the morphological results. The nuclear particles do not appear to be ribosomes or ribosomal subunits. On the other hand, there is a striking similarity of behaviour, including reactivity to enzymic digestion, between these elements and the interchromatinic granules." @default.
