- W1963972455 abstract "1 It was a great honour to organize the 14th International Conference on Electroanalysis which was held from June 3rd to 7th 2012 in Portorož, Slovenia under the auspices of the European Society for Electroanalytical Chemistry. At the same time it was also a pleasure to collaborate with the members of the Scientific and Organizing Committees which all showed unlimited willingness and devotion aimed at providing another successful ESEAC meeting. The four selected topics, i.e. Theory and frontier aspects of modern electroanalysis, Nano- and micro-scale electrochemical systems and devices, Electroanalysis in industrial, environmental and clinical chemistry, and Electrochemical sensors and biosensors covered most of the important areas in this rapidly growing field of electroanalytical chemistry, although it is not possible to follow rapidly and continuously emerging frontiers. The four topics were opened by worldwide distinguished scientists (Prof. Dr. Richard G. Compton, Prof. Dr. Joseph Wang, Prof. Dr. Xueji Zhang and Prof. Dr. María Encarnación Lorenzo Abad) followed by excellent keynote speakers (Prof. Dr. Alexander Kuhn, Prof. Dr. Miran Gaberšček, Prof. Dr. Anthony J. Killard, Prof. Dr. Andrzej Lewenstam, Prof. Dr. Arben Merkoçi and Prof. Dr. Valentin Mirčeski) who undoubtedly attracted numerous participants. Altogether, ESEAC 2012 yielded 86 oral presentations and 136 poster presentations exhibiting high scientific quality and the proof that electroanalysis spread considerably over its own limits and has become an inevitable companion in many scientific and industrial areas. Particularly, I was very happy regarding a relatively high number of young enthusiasts which will pave the future avenue of the contemporary electroanalytical chemistry, and considering the scientific enthusiasm which was evidently not affected by the global crises.1 Apart from the scientific part, also the social events gathered most of the participants in a nice and relaxing manner eliciting fruitful debates and I do believe that many new bonds and collaborations were established. During the ESEAC Gala dinner three prizes were awarded by our sponsors: one from DropSens (International DropSens Award to the Best Research Work in Applied Electroanalytical Chemistry) and two from Electroanalysis for two best posters. This is also a point where we must remember our dear colleague and friend Prof. Lucas Hernández who is no longer among us and to whom the memorial symposium “Electrochemical Sensors and Biosensors” was dedicated. At the very end, I would like to express my gratitude to the members of the Scientific and the Organizing committees, to all of you dear participants, to sponsors and accompanying persons who contributed and gave a special note to this conference. At the same time I am inviting you to the next 15th International Conference on Electroanalysis which will be held in Sweden and organized under the leadership of Prof. Lo Gorton. 1 Samo Hočevar Chairman of the Organizing Committee National Institute of Chemistry, Slovenia" @default.
