- W1964057789 abstract "Abstract Taking advantage of the high brilliance of synchrotron radiation, we have investigated the effect of temperature up to as high as 1100°C on the pressure-induced phase transitions in phosphorus. A cubic-type multi-anvil press was employed and a diffraction pattern in an energy-dispersive mode was taken for a short period of time, typically 200 s, without any irreversible effects in the sample. The pressure of the first transition, orthorhombic-rhombohedral, descreases with increasing temperature and the As-type structure is stable at 2.6 GPa at a temperature of 800°C. On the other hand, the pressure of the second transition, rhombohedral-simple cubic, is weakly dependent on temperature and the volume discontinuity at this transition continuously decreases with an indication that the transition appears to be of second order at temperatures higher than 700°C." @default.
