- W1964176481 abstract "Satellite-ground communication requires transmission rates of the order of gigabits per second owing to high precision sensors on board satellites. Radio communication links are typically used between satellites and ground stations, but high data rate communication at radio frequencies requires high powered transmitters and large parabolic antennas. Therefore, satellite laser communication is currently attracting attention. In laser communication technologies, power consumption is low, and system miniaturization is possible because semiconductor lasers are used as sources. Moreover such system do not require large antennas. Hence, high-speed communication can be achieved with small satellites. For this study, the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology developed a free-space optical 90-degree hybrid, and an atmospheric turbulence simulator to examine satellite-ground communication.
