- W1964462013 abstract "Human follicular fluid and 3'-5'-dibutyryl cyclic-AMP (DB cyclic-AMP) are able to induce important changes in the motility and membrane characteristics of human spermatozoa that may be related to the possible capacitation requirements of human spermatozoa. Spermatozoa motility increases drastically by treatment with the mentioned agents and this action is completely supressed by the addition of nanogram quantities of three contraceptive steroids (chlormadinone, norgestrel and nor ethynodrel). These same steroids at the same low concentrations, completely suppress the follicular fluid and DB cyclic-AMP induced release of H3-tetracycline hydrochloride (H3-T-HCl) bound to the human spermatozoa membrane. These effects can be best explained by postulating a direct action by the steroids upon the spermatozoa membrane capable of interfering with the capacitating action of follicular fluid. It is also shown that small ionic modifications of the microenvironment may be enough to modify the membrane properties required for successful capacitation." @default.
