Liquid and solid (crystal) states are treated on the same footing. The crystal order is described by new order parameters. Two examples are discussed: eutectic- and peritectic-type multilayers. It is found that the loss of the crystal order starts at surfaces and interfaces in the melting process, and that the relaxation process depends strongly on the initial configuration of the multilayer." @default.
