- W1965082717 abstract "This paper presents the performance of maximum sideslip and power-off high-to-post stall angle-of-attack command tracking for the X-48B Blended Wing Body flight test vehicle during Phase I testing. The X-48B has been actively flight tested at NASA Dryden since July 2007 to explore the stability and control characteristics of a Blended Wing Body class vehicle in free-flight conditions. The X-48B is a remotely piloted, dynamically sub-scaled vehicle with a 20 foot wing span. Its flight controller is implemented as a full-blown non-linear dynamic inversion controller. Twenty trailing edge flight control surfaces, including split surfaces, are allocated to achieve the pilot’s commands in the roll, pitch and yaw axes. Two of the flight test objectives were to investigate stall characteristics and steady heading sideslips as part of envelope expansion and prior to dynamic limiter assault testing. Flight test time histories are overlayed to show good sideslip and angle-of-attack command tracking performance and a good match with results from the back-driven X-48B high fidelity 6 degree-of-freedom non-linear simulation. For the same two response types, overlayed closed-loop Bodes comparing flight sweep FFT data to the linearized simulation are also presented." @default.
