- W1965171010 abstract "Abstract The effect of collector length on the concentration ratio and collection efficiency of beam radiation insolation components have been studied for an optimal V-groove collector. In this paper, collector base to reflector depth ( b d ) is considered a parameter. A complete set of nomographs are presented for an unshaded collector showing collector length effect ( l b ) on collection efficiency as a function of relative sun-collector positions for several b d ratios. Collection efficiency for each of the b d ratios for an infinite V-groove collector have also been indicated on these nomographs. For a partially shaded collector, the extent of shading of reflector(s) is an additional variable; therefore nomographs are presented only for a representative case. The collection efficiency values for a finite V-groove collector on a typical winter day are compared with an infinite collector. Smaller collector lengths show a significant decrease in collection efficiency. The per cent decrease in the collection efficiency on a typical winter day for an unshaded collector is on the order of 20 per cent for l b value of 1.00 and only 6 per cent for l b value of 8.33 compared to an infinite V-groove. The per cent decrease in the collection efficiency value shows a weak dependence on the b d ratio. Whereas the absolute magnitude of collection efficiency is significantly affected by the b d ratio." @default.
