- W1965190147 abstract "An electric molecular beam resonance apparatus has been used to observe rotational transitions in the CsF molecule in electric fields up to 12 000 V/cm. Stark shifts up to 3.8 GHz have been measured with a natural linewidth of 4 kHz at minimum values of the transition frequencies, allowing the determination of the anisotropy of an effective polarizability (γ∥−γ⊥) ′=2.09±0.04 Å3 for the vibrational states v=0 and v=1. This value describes the difference between the Stark effect of a rigid rotator and that of the actual molecule. It is shown that all deviations from the Stark effect of the rigid rotator can be brought to a form where they have exactly the same dependence on the rotational quantum numbers J and m as a second rank tensor. This fact confirms the impossibility of a separate determination of the individual polarization contributions by spectroscopic methods involving only a change in J and m." @default.
