- W1965479676 abstract "Unimolecular and bimolecular reactions of ionized carbon dioxide microclusters (CO2)+N, N ⩽ 10 were investigated mass spectrometrically. The clusters were generated with a supersonic beam instrument. They were ionized by electron impact and mass-analysed with a quadrupole instrument. Direct study of reaction kinetics was possible by trapping the ions in a cylindrical r.f. ion trap. Fragmentation of a carbon dioxide molecule after electron impact results in clustered fragment ions. The degree of fragmentation depends on the stagnation pressure of the expanded gas and on the electron energy. The lifetimes of the cluster ions (CO2)+N, N = 2, 3, 4, are in the 100-ms range. The results show a non-statistical energy distribution in the cluster ions." @default.
