Methods Ninety patients undergoing endoscopic injection therapy for vesicoureteral reflux were retrospectively reviewd and classified two groups: ureteral obstruction group (group 1: 7cases, 10ureters; 6.2¡¾8.1years) and non-obstructive group (group 2: 83cases, 169ureters; 7.0¡¾2.8years). We analysed age, sex, injection material, laterality, voiding dysfunction, constipation, renal scar, preoperative and postoperative findings of ultrasound, endoscopic findings, injection number, volume injected. Additionally we reviewed clinical manifestation, natural course, management and outcome of ureteral obstruction after the endoscopic injection. Results Incidence of postoperative ureteral obstruction after endoscopic injection was 4.1% (7/170ureters). There was no significance of risk factors between group 1 and 2. Three of patients did not any symptoms or signs after ureteral obstruction. Most of patients with ureteral obstruction was spontaneously resolved within one month with conservative therapy. However two patients needed temporary ureteral stent insertion for release of ureteral obstruction. Conclusions In our experience, the incidence of ureteral obstruction was similar with previous report. There was no predictive risk factors developing ureteral obstruction after enodoscopic injection therapy. Although most of ureteral obstruction was spontaneously resolved within one month, some cases need drainage to relieve symptoms or to improve renal function.
