- W1965685890 abstract "Abstract Irritability tests carried out with 2% DDT and 0.2% malathion on the adult females of an original strain, F 5 generation selected with DDT and F 5 generation selected with malathion of Culex pipiens L. Generally, testing the means of the two factors of irritability (time lapse before first take‐off and number of take‐offs per female or group of 5 females), results indicated the significant differences which occurred between the original females and those reared from eggs laid by the selected females in the five successive generations with LC 90 of both DDT and malathion, whether the females were unfed or engorged, at the age of 3 or 15 days. These results also showed that DDT was more irritant than malathion for the females of C. pipiens at the different ages of 3 and 15 days. As to the effect of age and feeding conditions of the females, the results were inconsistent, in all of females of the original strain and F 5 generation selected with DDT or malathion. The old mosquitos (15‐days‐old) were either less or more irritable than the younger ones (3‐days‐old). The hungry females were either less or more irritable than the engorged ones. @default.
