- W1966069084 abstract "The effect of applied field on the sinusoidal magnetic structures of HoZn2 (at 4.2 K) and TbZn2 (at 62.4 K) have been studied by powder neutron diffraction measurements for the case when the field is perpendicular to the magnetic moment vectors. A simple theory is developed and found to predict correctly the variation of satellite intensities for low values of the applied field. Analysis of the experimental data by this theory yields the following values for the magnetic anisotropy coefficients: K20 = 5.9 × 10−17 erg/Ho, 4.7 × 10−17 erg/Tb; K22 = 11.8 × 10−17 erg/Ho, 8.2 × 10−17 erg/Tb, where K20 and K22 correspond to the L = 2, M = 0,2 coefficients in the anisotropy energy expression. There are definite indications of a metamagnetic transition at an applied field of about 15 kOe. Magnetization measurements seem to be in agreement with these results. A curious feature is the failure of some of the satellite intensities to return to original values when the field is switched off. Nous avons étudié l'effet du champ appliqué sur les structures magnétiques sinusoïdales de HoZn2 (à 4,2 K) et TbZn2 (à 62,4 K), à partir des mesures de diffraction de neutrons effectuées sur une poudre, dans le cas où le champ appliqué est perpendiculaire aux moments magnétiques. On a développé une théorie simple qui explique assez bein la variation de l'intensité des satellites magnétiques pour les valeurs faibles de champ appliqué. Les valeurs des coefficients d'anisotropie magnétocristalline trouvées sont: K20 = 5,9 × 10−17 erg/Ho, 4,7 × 10−17 erg/Tb; K22 = 11,8 × 10−17 erg/Ho, 8,2 × 10−17 erg/Tb. Quand le champ appliqué devient de l'ordre de 15 kOe, on observe les indices d'une transition métamagnétique dans les deux composés. Les mesures d'aimantation faites sur poudres sont en accord avec ce résultat. Enfin, on trouve oue les intensités de certains satellites magnétiques ne reprennent pas leurs de départ (H = 0) quand on supprime le champ appliqué." @default.
