As a naval constructor and engineering-duty-only officer, he completed 20 years of commissioned service prior to his voluntary retirement in 1950. While on active duty, he filled typical EDO assignments in Naval Shipyards, in the Bureau of Ships, and with Forces Afloat, being particularly closely associated with problems of destroyer design, construction and maintenance. At the time of his retirement he was assigned as Deputy Director of Ship Design, in the Bureau of Ships, having returned only a few months earlier from duty in South America with the U. S. Naval Mission to Peru. For several years he assisted the Editor of the Journal and was elected as Secretary-Treasurer of the Society in 1945. Since retirement, he has had executive experience in medium-size and large corporations. He currently lives in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, where he has his own business as a consultant to industry on sales, engineering and management matters.
