- W1966163290 abstract "Three specimens of mixed (adenosquamous) carcinoma of the endometrium in which the squamous component is of the large cell nonkeratinizing type are examined by electron microscopy in order to elucidate the squamous nature of the large cells. The glandular component consists of several layers of columnar to polygonal malignant epithelial cells which vary in electron density. The large and irregular nucleus shows little chromatin clumping. Cytoplasmic fillaments of 60–80 A are scattered in the basal cells of the glandular component. The squamous component consists of sheets of malignant large cells. The nucleus of the large cells shows more chromatin clumping than in the glandular epithelial cells. The cytoplasm of the large cells contains keratohyalin-like granules and abundant filaments which, on occasion, aggregate to form tonofibrils. Desmosomes with tonofilaments are also present in the large cells. Since these structures are characteristic of squamous cells, the large cells of mixed carcinoma of the endometrium appear to be squamous in nature." @default.
