- W1966290883 abstract "Interactions in the head group region of lipid monolayers at the mercury/water interface have been studied. The loop diuretic furosemide, which is completely insoluble in hydrocarbon, intercalates between the lipid head groups, expanding the surface area of the monolayer and thus decreasing the thickness of the hydrocarbon layer and raising its electrical capacitance. At higher concentration the excessive expansion of the hydrocarbon layer increases the tendency to form mycelles and leads to identations in the monolayers with an increase in their ionic permeability. Cholera toxin interacts with the hydrophylic receptor of the ganglioside GM1 embedded in lipid monolayer. This completely polar interaction imposed on the structural constraints leads to incorporation of the formed complex into the monolayer, perturbing the continuity of the hydrocarbon layer. This leads to increased capacitance and ionic conductance of the interacting monolayer." @default.
