- W1966394906 abstract "1. Eggs of Hemicentrotus (Strongylocentrotus) pulcherrinus were subjected to an electrical shock with direct current which induced partial cytolysis. 2. In eggs stimulated with weak shock in sea water the membrane elevated at the anodal side or both at the anodal and the cathodal sides. When inseminated such eggs became polyspermic. If the electrical shock was adequate, either elliptical or spherical membrane with opaque perivitelline space was formed. 3. In the absence of Ca either washed away by Ca- and Mg-free artificial sea water or removed by sodium oxalate, the eggs elevated high and thin concentric circular membranes with transparent perivitelline space. These membranes shrunk upon transferring the eggs to sea water and the formation of a hyaline layer and of a monoaster took place. 4. Eggs treated with urethane elevated partial membrane at the cathodal side or both the cathodal and the anodal sides upon electrical stimulation. 5. The propagation of the response induced electrically is discussed on the evidence of the experimental results." @default.
