• W1966730689 abstract "Contrairement à la plupart des recherches sur les activités de travail centrées sur des « centres de coordination » stables et nettement délimités dans le temps et dans l’espace, cet article traite d’un type d’organisation du travail presque opposé : un travail qui requiert la contribution active de combinaisons de personnes et d’artefacts en reconfiguration constante, œuvrant au gré de trajectoires temporelles étendues, et largement distribuées dans l’espace. Pour décrire ces situations étudiées dans le secteur de la santé publique, l’article propose le concept de knotworking, ou travail en nœud. Cette notion fait référence à l’orchestration d’une performance collaborative, distribuée et partiellement improvisée entre des acteurs ou des systèmes d’activité par ailleurs faiblement connectés entre eux. Pour examiner ce phénomène de plus près, l’article analyse d’abord une séquence de knotworking centrée sur les premiers soins reçus par une malade mentale. Puis, il passe à l’analyse d’une tentative d’institutionnalisation de ce mode de coopération chez les personnels chargés d’assurer les soins pédiatriques dans la région d’Helsinki en Finlande. Il examine les défis que le knotworking pose aux études du travail inspirées par la théorie de l’activité. Enfin, il esquisse une vision dans laquelle les sources futures du knotworking pourraient bien résider dans la production socialement médiée par Internet et dans des schémas largement distribués d’organisation du travail.Contrarily to most workplace studies which focus on temporally and spatially compact and stable “centers of coordination”, this paper attempts to direct attention to an almost opposite type of work organization. It refers to work which requires active construction of constantly changing combinations of people and artifacts over lengthy trajectories of time and widely distributed in space. These forms of work organization can be described with the notion of knotworking. The notion of knot refers to distributed, rapidly pulsating and partially improvised orchestration of collaborative performance between otherwise loosely connected actors and activity systems. To examine the phenomenon more closely, the paper first analyzes a sequence of knotworking focused on a mental patient in primary health care. It then moves to an analysis of an attempt at institutionalizing knotworking among providers of children's medical care in the Helsinki area in Finland. It discusses the challenges knotworking presents to activity-theoretical studies of work. Finally, it develops a vision in which the future foundation of knotworking is seen to reside in Internet-mediated social production and highly distributed patterns of organizing work." @default.
