The data were correlated in terms of the Nusselt and Reynolds numbers, with gas properties taken at the bulk temperature. The high intensity of turbulence increased the heat transfer rates to above most of those previously reported, and Reynolds number exponents typical of turbulent systems were obtained. Une étude experimentale de transfert de chaleur a été effectuée entre un jet d'azote provenant d'une torche à plasma de 40 kw. et des sphères de 0.625 et 1.000 pouce de diamètre, refroidies par un courant d'eau. Les sphères étaient suspendues dans un chambre cylindrique en graphite de huit pouces de diamètre, à une distance de 10.5 pouces de la torche. L'étude a été réalisée avec des différences de température allant jusqu'à 5,000°f. et des nombres de Reynolds compris entre 600 et 4,300. Les résultats sont présentés en termes des nombres de Nusselt et de Reynolds, les propriétés physiques de l'azote étant estimées à la température du gaz.
