- W1966954295 abstract "identify a possible sedative effect of the drugs, which could lead to false results in the passive avoidance test. Our results showed that the group treated with ethanol had shortened latencies in short-term memory as compared to control. This effect was forewarned with the pre-treatment with naltrexone [F(3,33) = 6.158; p = 0.0022]. Scopolamine, however, decreased the latency time, which indicates a possible impairment of short-term memory formation. Naltrexone, on the other hand, significantly improved the scopolamine-induced impairment of short-term memory [F(3,32) = 70.483; p< 0.0001]. However, this protection was not total, because the latencies did not return to the same levels as the control group. The effects observed in the E/S group were similar to those observed in the S group, but different from the C group [F(3,31) = 65.843; p< 0.0001]. No alteration was observed in long-term memory in the E, S, N and N/S groups. However, a decrease in latency time was observed in the E/S group, as compared to control, ethanol and scopolamine [F(3,30) = 8.761; p = 0.0003]. No difference in locomotor activity was detected after the drug administrations in the E, N and N/E groups as compared to control. However, an increased locomotor activity was observed in the S, N/S and E/S groups as compared to the saline-treated group. A decrease and an increase of the number of rearings were observed after the treatment with N/E and N/S, respectively, as compared to controls. No alteration was observed in grooming (G) and in the rotarod test as compared to controls (G = 2.75±0.59; NF = 1.90±0.31 and TP = 48.7±4.6). We conclude that the memory formation process may be modulated by opioid and cholinergic systems, as the loss of memory caused by ethanol and scopolamine is reverted − totally and partially, respectively − by naltrexone." @default.
