Ever since that date investigations have shown that a substantial increase in the air flow to the engine can be obtained by the use of a suitable intake pipe. However, insofar as the writer is aware, no comprehensive data have been compiled, either for the purpose of design, or for basic understanding of the problem. The object of the present investigation is based mainly on the study of the acoustical phenomenon and the effect of the length and diameter of the inlet pipe on the compression pressure and hence on the supercharging of a multicylinder four-stroke gasoline engine over a wide range of engine speed, and also to determine an optimum length and diameter of intake pipe which would yield the maximum compression pressure." @default.
