- W1966988878 abstract "Abstract Effects of various concentrations (0·5, 1, and 4 μl) of Farnesyl methyl ether (FME) on ovarian development and carbohydrate and lipid interconversion were studied on 3-, 6-, or 9-day-old pharate adults of Malacosoma pluviale . Incorporation of glucose-U- 14 C or palmitate-1- 14 C into different sugars and various lipid classes was also studied. Treatment of 2-day-old pharate adults with 1 or 4 μl FME inhibited ovarian development, the females producing significantly fewer and lighter eggs. The antigonadotrophic effect was more pronounced at 4 μl and least at 0·5 μl dosage. The treated females utilized more glycogen and trehalose than the controls, while retaining most of their original lipid. Such differences were more pronounced in 9-day-old than in 6- or 3-day-old pharate adults. Treated males also showed similar effects on carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Catabolism of glucose-U- 14 C and palmitate-1- 14 C to 14 CO 2 was slightly less in individuals treated with 4 μl of FME. Conversion of glucose- 14 C to glycogen and trehalose was reduced by FME treatment while its incorporation into lipids, particularly triglycerides, diglycerides, and free fatty acids was significantly increased. Similarly, incorporation of palmitate- 14 C into sugars was reduced and into glycerides was increased by FME treatment." @default.
