On a pu observer ainsi les formes suivantes ML+, ML2 et ML3-. Il ne se forme pas de complexes polynucléaires. Les complexes des α-hydroxyisobutyrates sont plus forts que ceux des lactates. Die Stabilitätskonstanten der Lactat- und α-Hydroxiisobutyrat-Komplexe mit folgenden Kationen wurden durch potentiometrische Titrationen bestimmt: Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Pb2+ und UO22+. Die durchschnittliche Ligandenzahl überschritt 2, was auf die Bildung von ML+-, ML2- und ML3--Komplexen hinweist. Die Existenz des ML3--Komplexes wurde durch elektrophoretische Versuche bestätigt.
