- W1967894915 abstract "1. The lungs of rats, guinea-pigs, and human were compared for total histamine content, histamine release by compound 48/80 and Triton-X-100, and histamine metabolism. 2. Total lung histamine decreased in the following order: guinea-pig>human>rat. 3. Under the experimental conditions used, the amount of histamine released by compound 48/80 decreased as follows: human>rat>guinea-pig. 4. Both rat and guinea-pig metabolized added histamine: the former mainly via diamine oxidase, the latter by some other metabolic system. Human lung did not metabolize added histamine. 5. With guinea-pig and human lung, histamine release by compound 48/80 was selective, since it was not accompanied by release of intracellular constituents such as lactic dehydrogenase, protein, and histamine-metabolizing enxymes. With rat lung, compound 48/80 caused some non-selective histamine release. In the lungs of all three species Triton-X-100 caused non-selective release of histamine." @default.
