- W1967934831 abstract "Contractions of the uterus are not necessarily painful. Nevertheless it is now generally acknowledged that they are responsible for the pain associated with dysmenorrhoea. The non-gravid uterus has a characteristic contraction-relaxation pattern depending on the phase of the menstrual cycle (Moir, 1944; Dahle, 1950), but the contractions become hypertonic, exaggerated and dysrhythmic during dysmenorrhoea (Bickers, 1941; Woodbury, 1950; Garrett, 1960). The basic cause of these cramps is unknown, although there have been many hypotheses." @default.
