- W1968051913 abstract "The premiere issue of the Creativity Research Journal (CRJ) opened with an editorial (Runco, 1988). It suggested that rigorous research on creativity was needed, as was a journal in which to publish it—a journal that focused on creativity. That editorial called for research that was (a) original, (b) useful, and (c) well-integrated into the existing scientific literature. Much has been learned about creativity in the 20 years since that editorial was published. One glitch has recently arisen, however, most likely as a result of the technological advances available to scholars and resrecognized and addressed. Put bluntly, the problem is that many earchers. Not all research can be found online, yet many papers submitted for publication, and many others actually in print, seem to rely entirely on computer searches. This has led directly to superficial citations of the relevant literature. Such superficial citations, when they occur, are very likely unintentional, but they are contrary to the aforementioned integration of literature and the cumulative requirements of science. Examples of topics which are too often poorly cited are given in this article. These include the intentionality inherent in creative behavior, intrinsic motivation, domain specificity, and paradoxical personalities. The possibility that some superficiality is intentional, especially in creative studies, is also explored. This follows from the fact that originality is so highly valued by individuals studying creativity. After this originality bias is described, a modest solution is offered. It is a change being made to the CRJ such that its Comments section will be expanded and will now include Comments and Corrections. The intent is to encourage more thorough citations and interpretations of creativity research." @default.
