- W1968190315 abstract "Our ASED molecular orbital study using cluster models of stoichiometric wustite (FeO) shows water will dissociatively chemisorb, covering the surface with OH. We find evidence for surface reconstruction so that all OH species sit on top of the surface. Hydrogenation of adsorbed oxygen atoms by water is even more facile. The barriers to the reverse reactions for these processes are small, suggesting the water will reform and desorb at elevated temperatures. We see evidence based on orbital energy level bonding shifts for a decrease in the workfunction when water is adsorbed on wustite. Our results offer, in these regards, an interpretative model for the experimental results of Kurtz and Henrich who have studied water adsorption to α -hematite surfaces." @default.
