Using this model, we simulated atomic positions as a function of time in a free-standing thin monoatomic metal film as well as in a thin film on a substrate. In particular, we studied how the electronic thermal stress influences lattice expansion after the ultrafast laser heating. The simulation results agree very well with experimental data obtained with femtosecond electron diffraction." @default.
