- W1968343265 abstract "Changes in the pore structures of PVDC based 1123 K carbons, brought about by oxidative activation or heat treatment in the temperature range 1273–1673 K, have been followed using the adsorption of N1 at 77 K and 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane (Freon 113) at 273 K. Data have been analysed using the Dubinin-Polanyi (D-P) approach to adsorption.Activation to progressively higher degrees of burn-off leads to a sequential displacement of the adsorption isotherms, for both vapours, to higher adsorption values. Adsorptive capacity is reduced with increasing heat-treatment temperature (HTT) and molecular sieve effects are evident for Freon 113.The D-P approach is shown to allow a detailed comparison of the adsorption data, especially at the lowest pressures studied, and to yield structural information about the carbons. The Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) equation does not describe the distribution of adsorption potential (A = RTlnpo/p) with open pore volume across the full range of pressure studied for the activated carbons, but micropore volumes (Wo) obtained using this eqn do reflect the changes in adsorptive capacity outlined above. Characteristic energies (Eo) and pore dimensions derived from N2 data indicate pore widening with burn-off. A wider range of fit is obtained for unactivated and heat-treated carbons, and the structural parameters derived for the latter are consistent with pore narrowing and closure." @default.
