- W1968451777 abstract "Recently many authors have investigated type II superconducting weak links and derived current J-phase ϕ relationships similar to Josephson's [1], [2]. But in the case of strong links they found that the J-ϕ relation is not a simple sinusoidal but becomes the expansion of sin n ϕ, where n is an integer. From their conclusion we can regard any type II superconductor as a kind of strong links with J-ϕ relation where J0 = cϕ 0/8 π2 λ2 ξ and Σn an, λ and ξ are respectively the constant < 1, the penetration depth and the coherence length. J. Sutton investigated the flux entry into thin film type II superconductor and found that penetration of an accurately parallel applied field into a thin film causes the entry of first quantized flux at a field H 1 ≃ ϕ0/πa2 + H c1 where 2 a is film thickness [3]. When magnetic field is equal to H1, thin film contains one flux quantum in the region of πa2 and total supercurrent I can be expressed as I = ∫a-a J dx = 0 because ϕ = | π | at X = | a |. Same situation occurs in the case of Hn, where Hn is the field at which nth quantized flux enters the film and n is integer. Above considerations suggest that it may be possible to observe Faunhofer pattern-like behaviour in the critical current I versus magnetic field H characteristics of thin film type II superconductor as in the case of Josephson junction. The samples were thin Pb-(20 wt %)-In alloy films evaporated at ∼ 10 -7 torr onto glass substrates at room temperature : Thickness of the samples varied from 500 A ∼ 2 600 A. Characteristics of critical current Jc versus magnetic field H parallel to film surface were measured at 4.2 K. Josephson effect-like phenomena were observed in Jc-H characteristics in the samples satisfying the relation ξ < a < λ. These J c-H characteristics of films were similar to those of Josephson junction having a size larger than Josephson penetration depth λ J. The quasi-Josephson effect of thin film type II superconductor will be discussed while comparing its critical current, Hc1, energy of vortex, Josephson penetration depth, electromagnetic radiation, etc. with corresponding values in the case of Josephson effect in ordinary S-I-S junctions." @default.
