Reservoirs of tuberculosis infection are escaping detection because of the inadequacy of mass roentgenography and tuberculin testing. Omran and Deuschule (1), in a controlled study, found an 18% failure rate in the detection of tuberculosis by these methods. Futhermore, tuberculin sensitivity does not equate with active tuberculosis and is of little value after Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination. For these reasons, many investigators have tried to develop a serological method for the diagnosis of mycobacterial infections, and...References1.
