• W1969026370 abstract "The ESR spectra of Mn2+-doped x:y strontium borate polycrystalline compounds (x:y = 3:1, 2:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3) have been investigated using a judicious mixture of matrix diagonalization and computer simulation techniques. In these compounds, crystal field parameters fall in the range d/h = 0.487 to 1.57 GHz. E/D = 1/10 to 1/3 and hyperfine coupling constants vary between A = 82 and 98 G. The primary Mn2+ sites are probably substitutional for strontium ions in both the compounds and the glasses. A lack of complete structural information on the compounds of this system precludes any detailed calculations concerning Mn2+ sites using the fine structure parameters. Mn2+-doped strontium borate glass spectra in the range 20–40 M% SrO are relatable to the spectra occurring in the 1:3 and 1:2 compounds. The ubiquitous nature of the Mn2+ glass spectrum in alkali borate, alkali silicate, alkaline-earth borate and other oxide glass systems can be understood as arising from singularities of powder patterns which are stationary with respect to changes in both D and E/D. This interpretation allows glass spectra resulting from random distributions of different primary sites to have similar envelopes." @default.
